Carnivale 2121 - 2

Last year the community of North Epping were so moved by the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria they launched Carnivale 2121 - a community event aimed at reaching out to others. They raised $13,000 for a group called Firefoxes who are helping families and individuals rebuild their lives after the fires.

On Sunday, March 28 Carnivale 2121 is on again. They will be continuing their association with Firefoxes.

And like last year I'll be having a stall full of the usual goodies.

Carnivale 2121

It was somewhat sobering to be blessed with such a beautiful day on Sunday. The suburb where I go to church held a huge carnival to raise money for victims of the recent bushfires in Victoria. And the day was lovely - warm but comfortable and filled with families enjoying the sunshine, the fun and each other.

My older two had a fabulous time running here and there, going on the giant slide, riding ponies, eating fairy floss and just being.

In all the busy mundane stuff that is part of being a mum and just being I forget to enjoy and rejoice in the being... But standing in my little stall and looking out on those kids of mine, seeing them with friends and cousins, and even on their own - I counted my blessings. They are too numerous to name and too widespread to countenance.

I'm not sure how much the carnival raised but it was a great day and people gave of themselves so generously to help those they do not even know. I would love to see this as a regular event - focused outwards on the needs of others. Whether it's supporting other Australians or perhaps taking a broader focus it would be lovely to make this a regular event.
