Things I've learnt on holidays

Back from a lovely week down the coast. Kangaroos, King Parrots, Rosellas, Kookaburras and amazing quiet. I did get somewhat twitchy without anything to sew, knit or glue. But detox is good every now and again. And as usual I learned a few things....

1. Check the cupboard before driving the 40 minutes to the nearest supermarket. Don't expect the local store to have sultanas, rolled oats or maple syrup.

2. Don't try and carry a saucepan with a bubbling mix of golden syrup, butter and bi carb soda while holding an almost-three-year-old on your hip. Something will spill.

3. Don't reminisce about getting trapped down the coast because of bushfires in front of your eight-year-old. She will freak out.

4. Don't say "no" to an almost-three-year-old. EVER. ABOUT ANYTHING. distract. distract. distract.

5. Don't try and write / rewrite two novels and a kids' chapter book at the same time. The characters WILL get mixed up.

6. Vintage clothing shops and Op Shops are the best places to shop in the world.

7. Kangaroos don't like carrots.
