Among the zillion fun things there are in making *stuff*, one of the best things is that everything has a story. This is especially true when using old materials. Both Cath and I love repurposing things and giving them a new lease of life. Whether it's felting old mothy jumpers or transforming buckles and buttons into quirky brooches it's very satisfying to reuse and reuse and reuse.
One of my new little passions are vintage playing cards. Not the usual set of 52 but vintage Old Maid, Snap, Crazy Eights etc. I particularly like the miniature ones that come in lovely little boxes that are made to look like books.
Some of the illustrations on these cards are quite telling. There are

strong racist elements in some of them while others are just plain hilarious. A number of these cards make it onto the front of rosebarnett cards but some are just so lovely I've started using them for pictures. I mounted a few for the last Mosman markets and they were quite popular. We'll see what the response is like this weekend!
