The world's worst blogger

It's me - it's got to be me. My last post before this one was November last year! What a shocker. I would love to be one of those write a groovy, incisive message every day or upload pictures of the latest gastronomical masterpiece sort but it's never gonna happen. As with everything in this crazyiness of mothering, crafting and trying to keep up with the housework, blogging has to happen in the margins!

FIVE MINUTE HIATUS WHILE I DEAL WITH AN ARGUMENT OVER TOYS AND CONSOLE LUCY ABOUT SCHOOL AND ITCHY LEGS

I'm back and I'm wondering what Oscar Wilde or Shakespeare would have done with a blog. I wonder if the immediacy of it all would just turn their gems to dross. Or maybe they'd be able to write more cool stuff.

Holidays. Have been and gone. Fabulous time away with Pete and Jane and their trio. The kids had a ball at the beach. Lucy and Elijah loved swimming and riding the boogie boards. And Lucy became an adept little snorkler too. Jake's beach fun at Forster consisted of me digging holes and filling them with water. After which he would fill them with sand and I'd have to start again. It was all a bit "Cool Hand Luke"ish.

After the luxury of a holiday house with a dishwasher, shared parenting and cooking and hanging out with Pete and Jane we travelled south for the luxury of a holiday house with kangaroos in the backyard, the beach down the road and lovely visitors. At Cunjurong Jake moved beyond the hole-digging experience of the beach to actually going in the water. It took lots of patient coaxing and easing but by the end of the holiday he loved being in the water, especially doing "tea bags". (A cunning trick where he is the tea bag and I make a cup of tea by dunking him in the water. It has worked with all three of our kids!)

Back to Sydney and our favourite deputy aka Tim has been super busy with school. Yikes - it's like HSC marking again but it lasts longer than three weeks! Oh well it's been a bit too easy for too long with him home by 6 most nights.

We worked out that we had three nights out together last year without the kids - and none of those occasions were just us. New Plan: Spend time together.

Well this will be a week of firsts for the kids. Lucy's first day in the primary (after 3 years in infants), Elijah's first day at school and Jake's first swimming lesson. By Friday night I'll be ready for a large glass of wine and half a block of Lindt (not necessarily together!)
