Five things about Lucy

At last it's Lucy's turn! So here are five things about my gorgeous girl.

1. She is named after Lucy Pevensie, the youngest of the four children in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and one of my all-time favourite characters. Ever since I first read the Narnia books (about 30 years ago now!) I wanted a girl named Lucy. The name Lucy means "light".

2. Lucy has never liked dolls or girly things. She was given Barbies and those ghastly big-headed nasty looking dolls but she never played with them. When she was very small she loved duplo and we would play with it for hours. (She has a terrific concentration span.) She still loves a bit of construction but drawing and writing are now her favourite pastimes. She has a marvellous sense of proportion in her drawings and loves to create characters with their own little lives and homes. As a non-drawer (I struggle with stick figures) I watch her in amazement.

3. Lucy doesn't mind a bit of soccer or footy or bike riding but she when she's outdoors she'd much prefer to be up a tree. She and Elijah conjure up wild and exciting games using whatever is at their disposal outdoors.

4. Lucy's favourite colour is blue, although she is quite partial to white. It has been pointed out to me several times that white is not a colour but a tone. So there. But definitely not pink. Her favourite food is fruit - mangoes, raspberries, blueberries and white nectarines / peaches are her favourite fruits. When she grows up she wants to grow raspberries. Yum!

5. Lucy is very generous. When she turned 8 she asked that she not be given presents but that money be donated to "Turn on the Tap" - a charity that provides clean water in developing countries. You can read more about it here. She loves making, buying and giving to others. (She is quite keen on receiving the odd present now and then too). She is really good at thinking of what other people will like and finding a great gift for them.

It's quite hard to stop at five and I must add a postscript for it is an important part of Lucy's character.

She has a very strong will. She is not easily swayed by her peers or her parents. She needs to be convinced and she is quite passionate about the the things she does believe in and the people she cares about. If she disagrees with something she will usually say so quite plainly. She will make a fabulous debater and a staunch feminist but all in the context of loving the Lord. You go girl!

What a treasure she is! She sounds as if she has inherited the very best of both her parents (and yours, Sarah). It's such a joy to read about your children - thank you for sharing so beautifully.
